Il pezzo è una rilettura in chiave techno-dance del famoso brano (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life di Bill Medley e Jennifer Warnes, inserito nella colonna sonora di Dirty Dancing. In una recente intervista, Fergie ha dichiarato che l’idea dell’originale campionamento è venuta in seguito alla partecipazione dell’attrice Jennifer Grey a Dancing with the Stars:
"È una celebrazione di questo momento incredibile nella nostra vita, siamo stati in tour in tutto il mondo, è incredibile vedere gli stadi pieni di persone che sono venute appositamente per noi. Questi sono i momenti che dobbiamo ricordare. Non sai mai cosa può accadere, quindi devi dare il meglio ogni giorno, volevamo catturare quella sensazione per poterla trasmettere ai nostri fan attraverso una canzone, perché, senza di loro, non sarebbe successo nulla".
Nel videoclip ufficiale di questi artisti stranieri, girato a Los Angeles e diretto da Lee Rich, i BEP attraversano diversi ambienti come una pista da ballo dando una scossa ai vari personaggi in scena. Abbondano gli effetti speciali tra cui le sagome animate dei cantanti.
Il 21 novembre 2010 i BEP vengono premiati come miglior gruppo agli "American Music Awards", vincendo per la terza volta questa categoria.
"The beginning" verrà pubblicato in versione standard, in edizione deluxe con tre brani extra, in vinile e in un cofanetto da due Cd contente, oltre al disco stesso, anche una selezione estrapolata dal repertorio del gruppo.
