Coldplay: "Viva La Vida" video musicale youtube

Viva la Vida, di cui vediamo il video musicale youtube,  è il singolo dei Coldplay. La prima impressione è che “Viva la vida or death and all his friends” sia un disco ambizioso, fatto da una band che ha tutt’altro che l’intenzione di speculare sul suo successo riproponendo quanto ha già realizzato in passato.

Se non fosse un paragone abusato, verrebbe da mettere in parallelo le carriere di Coldplay e U2, in particolare il momento di “Unforgettable fire”, e non solo perché anche Chris Martin e soci si sono affidati a Brian Eno – mago nel costringere le band con cui lavora a ridefinire il proprio sound, pur riuscendo a renderle comunque riconoscibili. Questo successe agli U2 in quel periodo, e questo sta succedendo ai Coldplay: basta sentire una canzone come “Lovers of Japan”, dall’incidere epico – caratteristica tipica del gruppo inglese – ma dal suono stratificato, dove si sente chiaramene la mano di Brian Eno.

Altro esempio è “42”, canzone dalla struttura inconsueta ma comunque riconoscibile grazie all’approccio vocale di Martin: quasi tutti i brani del disco sembrano rifiutare la forma canzone classica, pur mantenendo un approccio melodico.

Inizialmente non tutto convince fino in fondo: in canzoni come “Reign of love” – con violini ed elettronica che si sovrappongono – i Coldplay sembrano strafare un po’.

Il responso è che i Coldplay sembrano funzionare meglio con canzoni dove il lavoro sul suono si nasconde in un doppiofondo, lasciando spazio ad un impatto più diretto, come “Viva la vida”, il singolo “Violet hill”, “Strawberry swing” o “Death and all his friends”, che inizia come una ballata minimale piano voce e chitarra per poi aprirsi, un po’ alla maniera di “Fix you”, anche se in questo caso con un ritmo quasi dance. “Viva la vida” è un disco coraggioso, con canzoni che emergono già al primo ascolto, ma con una complessità che stupirà molte persone, e che richiederà ben più di un primo ascolto per essere apprezzata a fondo.
