L’omonimo singolo vede la preziosa collaborazione di Jovanotti nella bellissima versione italiana, trasmessa in radio dal 10 Giugno. Il video è stato girato a Pavia con Jovanotti e Michael Franti assoluti protagonisti delle riprese.
Franti e gli Spearhead non hanno dubbi sul fatto di essere riusciti a creare quello che risulta essere il loro lavoro più coeso, romantico e vitale di sempre. La stessa energia positva del duetto con Jovanotti scorre infatti tra gli 11 brani dell’album passando dal groove allegro di “Shake It” (brano che negli Stati Uniti ha raggiunto la Top 40) all’inno di gioia di “I’ll Be Waiting”.
La band ha iniziato a registrare in Jamaica con i leggendari produttori Sly e Robbie (Bob Dylan, Carlos Santana, No Doubt) e nella case di Franti a Bali e a San Francisco. Con l’album non ancora terminato Franti ha deciso di portarsi dietro, durante il tour con John Mayer, uno studio mobile. Il disco è stato completato lungo la strada, nelle stanze d’albergo e negli spogliatoi, con Franti che suonava per il pubblico le canzoni registrate durante il giorno. “The SOUND OF SUNSHINE” continua a mostrare il desiderio di Franti di comunicare direttamente con i fan.
Michael Franti è il creatore e voce principale dei Michael Franti & Spearhead. Per oltre vent’anni, ci ha regalato una musica incredibilmente energetica e profonda. Durante gli studi all’Università di San Francisco, Franti forma la punk band “The Beatnigs” e successivamente i “The Disposable Heroes of Hiphiprisy”. A metà degli anni ’90 fonda gli Spearhead e negli anni successivi trova quella quadratura del cerchio che gli permette di raggiungere il successo. La serie impressionante di registrazioni passate riflette chiaramente il suo status di cittadino del mondo.
