Katy B feat. Ms. Dynamite: "Lights On" video musicale youtube

Katy B è il nome d’arte di Kathleen Brien nata nel 1989 a Peckham a South London. Inizia a farsi le ossa sin da ragazzina frequentando la scena underground del grime, della garage e della house e iniziando a collaborare con nomi di spicco dei generi: Geeneus, The Count & Sinden e Magnetic Man.

Il suo primo contratto venne firmato nel 2009 anche se il primo singolo uscì solo un anno dopo. Stesso anno nel quale la Brien si laureò all’università di Londra in musica pop.

Definire lo stile di Katy B come r&b è un po’ riduttivo visto che le sue influenze spaziano anche nel dub, nel funky senza dimenticare che è inglese e quindi si riesce chiaramente a percepire anche un po’ di stile garage.

Dopo un singolo d’esordio (intitolato Katy On a Mission) arriva questa notevole seconda prova, "Lights on", di cui vediamo il video musicale youtube, dall’album "On a Mission". Nel brano confluiscono tutte le influenze della giovane cantautrice (dubstep, funky, 2-step garage e r&b) al servizio di una linea melodica tutta da cantare e da ballare che mette subito in luce la brava Katy come uno dei nuovi talenti british da tenere d’occhio. Ciliegina sulla torta, poi, la partecipazione di Ms. Dynamite e delle sue inconfondibili rime (lei non produce niente di veramente significativo dal 2002). Anche il video riprende le atmosfere danzereccie della canzone facendoci vedere le due ballare su uno sfondo di luci colorate.
