Come dice il loro nome, i Neon Trees, dei quali vediamo il video musicale youtube dell'ultimo singolo "Animal", sono una combinazione melodica ed efficace di ottimo, accattivante pop e robusto, organico rock. I loro inni sono pieni di rabbia adolescenziale, di desiderio, amori persi e ritrovati e mostrano una passione sfrenata per la musica, che ha portato la band alla pubblicazione del loro album di debutto "Habits".
Prendi la parte allegra della new wave anni '80 di the Smiths, Depeche Mode, the Cure e U2, aggiungici un po' testi di rock classico a la Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty e Bryan Adams e vivacizza il tutto con un carisma fuori dal comune come quello di Michael Jackson, capirai di che pasta sono fatti i Neon Trees!
Nel testo del brano "Animal", i due innamorati/amanti sono paragonati ad animali, addirittura a cannibali con tanto di richiesta da parte di uno dei due all’altro affinchè “take a bite of my heart” ovvero, morda il suo cuore. Forse il successo statunitense di questo brano è dovuto anche ai richiami decisamente vampireschi del testo che lo collegano direttamente al grande successo avuto dalla tematica vampiresca di questi tempi.
